Amid the prevailing coronavirus situation in the country, Bangladesh National Awami Party (Bangladesh NAP) has called upon Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to announce a special health incentive package for journalists.

Chairman of Bangladesh NAP Jebel Rahman Ghaani and Secretary General M Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan made the call in a press statement issued on Wednesday. They said amid the corona crisis, media needs a conducive environment to work and government can do that by ensuring the health and safety of its staff. Apart from regular salaries, emergency risk allowances should also be ensured for the journalists. Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced a total incentive package of Tk 72,750 crore to overcome the possible economic impact on the country due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

The NAP leaders said that journalists have been making important contributions to ensure free flow of information despite various obstacles. The media workers on the frontline are playing a courageous role in ensuring objective information .
