Naimuzzaman Mukta wins Panchagarh-1 by huge margin

Awami League candidate for Panchagarh-1 constituency Md Naimuzzaman Bhuiyan Mukta has unofficially been declared MP from the constituency for the 12th national parliament.

He defeated his nearest rival candidate by 67,532 votes, according to the unofficial results after the end of vote count.

Naimuzzaman Mukta with ‘Boat’ symbol bagged 1, 24,742 votes in his constituency, while his nearest rival independent candidate Anwar Sadat Samrat with ‘Truck’ symbol secured 57, 210 votes in the polls held on Sunday (January 7).  

Returning Officer of the seat and Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Panchagarh Jahurul Islam made the announcement on Sunday evening. 

Panchagarh-1 seat consists of Panchagarh Sadar, Atwari and Tentulia Upazila. Moshiur Rahman Babu of National People’s Party (NPP), Sirajul Islam of Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF), Abdul Wadud Badsha of Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP) and Abdul Majid of Muktijote also joined the polls from the constituency. 

In his instant reaction, Naimuzzaman Mukta said that he is most grateful to the voters of his constituency. He vowed to work for the development for Panchagarh.

Calling the January 7 election a victory of democracy and people of the country, he congratulated the voters for electing him from the constituency. “People gave massive support to the Awami League through extending their support to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

Bangladesh Post family congratulated Naimuzzaman Mukta for being elected MP in the 12th National Parliament. Acting Editor of the daily ASM A Khaleque and Executive Editor Durjoy Roy in a statement said that the Bangladesh Post family is happy for the victory of Naimuzzaman Mukta, who is Joint Editor of Bangladesh Post. 

The voting in the 12th parliamentary elections began at 8:00 am and ended at 4:0pm without any break amid tight security in 299 out of the country’s 300 constituencies.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal claimed that the national election was held in free and fair atmosphere.

Md Naimuzzaman Bhuiyan Mukta was a brilliant and veteran student leader. He is currently vice-president of Panchagarh district Awami League.

Apart from active politics, he is also working as the Joint Editor of Bangladesh Post, an English national daily owned by Sikder Group, one of the country’s top industrial groups. He is also an expert in the Access to Information (A2I) project.

His parents are, father - Abdul Khalek Bhuiyan and mother - Nurjahan Bhuiyan. His father-in-law Kazi Mahbub is a valiant freedom fighter and mother-in-law Farida Akhtar Hira worked with high reputation as a parliamentarian in reserved seat.

Naimuzzaman Mukta’s wife Kazi Mousumee is active in Awami League politics after retiring as a senior officer from Bangladesh Army. She was also an executive committee member of Retired Armed Forces Officers Welfare Association Club (RAOWA Club).
