Nagorik Natya Sampradaya to host ‘Notuner Utshab 2019’

Renowned Bangladeshi theatre troupe Nagorik Natya Sampradaya has recently announced a brand new theatre festival. The seven-day event being organized in association with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, will begin on Friday, with an opening ceremony at the National Theatre Hall of BSA.

State Minister of Cultural Affairs K M Khalid will attend the inaugural event as the chief guest. Veteran theatre actor Ramendu Majumder, Aranyak Natyadal Chief Editor Mamunur Rashid, Dhaka Theatre President Nasiruddin Yousuff, and BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky will also attend the event as special guests.

Nagorik Natya Sampradaya Vice President Sara Zaker, along with the General Secretary of the troupe Ataur Rahman, will deliver the opening speeches.

Over the seven days of the festival, seven plays will be premiered, each at 7 pm in the National Theatre Hall of the BSA.

The festival will begin with Pantho Shahrear’s ‘Kalo Joler Kabbo,’ an adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘The Merchant of Venice,’ featuring Asaduzzaman Noor as Shylock. Popular actor Aupee Karim will also appear in the play.

Shamim Shagor’s ‘Radha Romon’ will be staged on the second day. Akashey Phuitese Phul-Letokahon, a drama directed by Dr Roton Siddique and Hridi Huq will be staged on day three.

An adaptation of Tagore’s Aruproton, directed by Saidur Rahman Lipon, will be shown on the fourth day. While, Kazi Toufiqul Islam Emon’s Khwabnama, adapted from Akhteruzzaman Elias’s novel of the same name, will be staged on the fifth.

O Monpahia, written and directed by Shubasish Sinha, will be staged on the sixth day.

The curtains will fall on the seven day festival with Mostafiz Shahin’s ‘Lottery,’ featuring visually impaired actors, with Sara Zaker as a part of the team.
