The Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) has taken the initiative of setting up an electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Narayanganj to charge electric vehicles.
BREB Chairman Ajay Kumar Chakraborty laid the foundation stone of EV charging station in front of Sonargaon 33/11 KV Outdoor Electric Substation of Narayanganj Palli Bidyut Samity-1 on Saturday.
BREB member (finance), member (Samity Management), (Additional Charges) Dipanker Biswas, Member (Distribution & Direction) Debashish Chakrabarty, Chief Engineer (Planning and Direction) Biswanath Shikdar, Senior General Manager of Narayanganj Palli Bidyut Samiti-1 Engineer Md. Mashfiqul Hasan were also present at the time.
The EV charging station is being established in Narayanganj in order to meet the charging needs of electric vehicles in the future.
BREB has taken initiative to set up EV (Electric Vehicle) charging station with the capacity of 120 kW (2*60 kW) including the technology of DC charging (dual connector), AC charger (22 kW).
The country’s first electric vehicle (EV) charging station was installed in Tejgaon area in the capital in 2023.
It was installed at Nabisco area in the capital city with the plans to build 11 more stations by 2024.
Meanwhile, an electric vehicle (EV) charging station, the first one outside Dhaka, was installed on a pilot basis in Jashore on December 22.
The station was installed at Khayertala area in Jashore town. The station has been jointly set up by Mulytic Energy Solutions Limited and West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited.
BREB officials said that Bangladesh will enter a new era. Currently, the number of electric charging vehicles is very low. However, the number is increasing.
Experts on energy sector said that the expansion of electric vehicles will reduce carbon emissions and pollution, which will play a vital role in saving the environment.
