At least 19 CNG-powered auto-rickshaws and five motorcycles were burnt in a mysterious fire incident in Chattogram.
The 24 vehicles were engulfed in the mysterious fire in a garage in Eidghabazar area under Halishahar police station in the port city in the wee hours on Monday.
Police believe that the fire may have occurred from the electrical short circuit of Chattogram city. However, some people of the area believe that it may be a mysterious fire incident during ongoing situation of the country.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Halishahar Police Station Md Kaiser Hamid said. “Based on the information from local and local people, we believe that the fire occurred from an electric short circuit. Local residents said that the fire started from there. The guards on duty at the garage also told us this.”
The auto-rickshaws had gas cylinders in the garage and the fire spread quickly. But it was not a matter of sabotage.
Agrabad Fire Station official Kofil Uddin said that the fire was brought under control at about 3:15 am after about one and a half hours of efforts. Two units of the fire service went to the spot after receiving information about the fire around 2:00 am. A CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, five motorcycles and a rickshaw kept in the garage were gutted in the fire. “We believe that the fire started from an electric short circuit,” said Kofil Uddin.
