Mymensingh City Corporation polls on Mar 9

Mymensingh City Corporation elections will be held on March 9. The Election Commission is preparing for EVM voting to complete free, fair and acceptable elections. The last date for submission of nomination papers is February 13. 

As the current mayor of the city and the president of the Awami League, Md Ikramul Haque Titu, has been announced as the mayoral candidate in the election, a lot of discussion has started among the voters regarding his re-election. It is not yet clear who will be his opponent.  In addition, there are strong discussions about participating in the election of 4 more mayors from Awami League. However, the leaders said that the leaders of Awami League will be candidates subject to political equation and support. BNP and Jatiya Party men can be candidates if the central decision is made.

 Mymensingh City Corporation Election-2024 Returning Officer and Mymensingh Regional Election Officer Mohammad Belayet Hossain Chowdhury said that one mayor of Mymensingh City Corporation, 33 general councilors in 33 wards and 11 women councilors in 11 reserved wards will be elected.

28 polling stations in 33 wards of the city have already been finalized. The total number of polling booths is 990, of which 870 are permanent polling booths and 120 are temporary polling booths.

The total number of voters in the city is three lakh 36 thousand 496 people. Among them 1 lakh 63 thousand 872 male voters and 1 lakh 72 thousand 615 female voters. This time female voters are 8 thousand 743 more than male voters.  9 voters from the Hijra community will vote in the city elections.  

The names being discussed as possible candidates for the post of mayor from Awami League are district Awami League president Ehteshamul Alam, former general secretary of city Awami League advocate Sadek Khan Milki Toju, vice president of Mahanagar A.League Golam Ferdous Jilu and former members of Awami League. Advocate Farmarz Al Noor Rajeev.

City Mayor Ikramul Haque Titu said, I have worked to fulfill the expectations of the city people from my position.

  As the mayor, I have worked according to my responsibility and duty to ensure all the services of the city residents. Never thought of being separated from the townspeople even for a day.

 I have constantly tried to bring the services to the doorsteps of the common people by increasing the quality of civil services as well as increasing the administrative mobility. 

Besides, the big responsibility of a public representative is to be by people's side in happiness and sorrow. Along with the development of the city, I have tried to meet the expectations of the city dwellers in any need, including social and religious.

 Mayor Titu said that we have been able to implement many developments in the city. 

Many works are in progress. If we can implement the unfinished business of the steps we have taken, the image of the city will change.  

Expressing the hope that the city residents will give the opportunity to serve again, Titu, the first mayor of Mosik, said, I have tried to fulfill social expectations by working with the citizens for a long time. 

I am running as a candidate again with that demand. Surely the people of the city will appreciate my long-term work and give me an opportunity to serve again in the future.
