The Myanmar Military Council has been carrying out frequent airstrikes on civilian areas in Mindat Township, Chin State, which are allegedly war crimes, according to Chinland Defense Force (CDF-Mindat) spokesperson Salai Ha Aum.
Since April, Mindat Township has been under regular aerial assault, with attacks intensifying in recent days.
Reports indicate that the area was bombed three times over two days, on 5 and 6 June. While no injuries were reported from the 5 June evening strike in Ranpang village, a bombing attack at 11:00 pm that night resulted in the death of a man and injuries to three women.
On 6 June, around 4:00 pm, two jet fighters dropped four bombs on Ranpang village, which fortunately detonated in the forest, causing no damage.
“The military council’s deliberate bombing of innocent people is committing genocide and war crimes,” said Salai Ha Aum.
Reports indicate that residents in many villages across Mindat Township are fleeing their homes out of fear of the Military Council.
The junta’s relentless bombing has targeted schools, religious structures, hospitals, and civilian residences, raising grave concerns for the local population’s safety.
On 4 June, the Mindat Township People’s Administration issued a warning, advising residents to avoid gathering in vulnerable locations, holding traditional events, constructing trenches and bomb shelters.
Between 1 April and 2 May, the Military Council carried out 36 airstrikes in Mindat Township, destroying nearly 30 buildings, including churches, schools, and homes, Chinland Defense Force (CDF-Mindat) said.
Additionally, on 6 June, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) warned the public to remain vigilant, cautioning that more airstrikes and heavy weapons fire may occur as the Military Council continues targeting civilians.
