My father received Blue Medal for his contribution to sport: MP Lipi

Kishoreganj-1 (Kishoreganj Sadar-Hossainpur) constituency MP Syeda Zakia Nur Lipi has said that the national cricket team has made fame for itself in the world. In particular, the Bangladesh cricket team has secured its place as a strong team. One day, Kishoreganj cricketers will shine the name of Kishoreganj in the world.

The MP came up with the assertion while speaking at the inaugural function of the late President Zillur Rahman 1st Division Cricket League tournament at the Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Syeda Zakia Noor Lipi said, “Today is the birthday of late President Zillur Rahman. On his birthday I remember him with respect.”

“My father, interim president Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam, was a cricketer,” she said. 

“He received a Blue Medal from Dhaka University for his special contribution in cricket. If my younger brother Titu had not been active in politics, he would have been the best athlete in the country,” she further said.

Lipi said that the cricket league is starting in Kishoreganj after many years. There will be competition in the game but that competition should not bring any jealousy. There will be a competition to give your best.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mohammad Golam Mostafa presided over the function.  Zila Parished Chairman Zillur Rahman, District Awami League General Secretary Advocate M.A Afzal, Additional Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman, Kishoreganj Municipal Mayor Md. Parvez. Mia, BCB Director Syed Ashfaqul Islam Titu, Deputy Civil Surgeon Mostafizur Rahman attended the inaugural function as a special guest.

Sadar Upazila Executive Officer and late President Zillur Rahman, 1st Division Cricket League Member Secretary Md Abdul Kadir Mia, Sadar Upazila Awami League President Advocate Ataur Rahman, Kishoreganj Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Bakar Siddique, District Sports Officer Al-Amin Sabuj and others were present on the occasion.

Under the management of the district sports body, 16 teams are participating in the late President Zillur Rahman 1st Division Cricket League. 

The champion team will be given a cash prize of one lakh taka and the runners-up team will be given a cash prize of fifty thousand taka.
