Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup preparations have received a boost with the return of veterans Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das as BCB announced a 19-member squad for the upcoming five-match series at home against New Zealand. The duo are joined by Aminul Islam who also returns from a personal leave.
Mushfiqur had been forced out of the just-concluded home series against Australia after opting out of the preceding Zimbabwe series to be by the side of his ailing parents and consequently missing Cricket Australia's stringent 10-day quarantine requirement deadline.
Likewise, Liton, after initially being ruled out of the first to T20Is in Zimbabwe due to a thigh injury, had eventually returned home early from the tour to attend to a sick family member and ended up missing the Australia rubber that the hosts won 4-1. The 22-year-old legspinning allrounder Aminul Islam, who lost his father while on national duty in Zimbabwe, also had opted out of the Australia series.
Left out of the 17-man squad that took on Australia is top-order bat and a back-up keep Mohammad Mithun, who incidentally last played a T20I for Bangladesh on their New Zealand tour at the start of the year.
Squad: Mahmudullah (C), Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Soumya Sarkar, Litton Kumer Das, Musaddek Hossain Saikat, Afif Hossain, Naim Sheikh, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Shamim Hossain, Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shaif Uddin, Shoriful Islam, Taijul Islam, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Aminul Islam Biplob, Nasum Ahmed.
