Mushfiqur Rahim apologized to his Beximco Dhaka teammate Nasum Ahmed for misbehaving with him twice on the field during the Eliminator game against Fortune Barishal on Monday, reports BSS.

The Dhaka captain Mushfiqur Rahim at the same time also sought apology to his fans and spectators, through a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Dhaka won the match eventually by nine runs to move to the second Qualifier but Mushfiqur’s rude behavior to his junior teammate sparked a widespread criticism.

Mushfiqur, also the former Bangladesh captain, appeared to punch and throw the ball to Nasum on two occasions during that match.

The wicket-keeper batsman said he realized his gesture was not acceptable at all and promised that things like these will not be repeated in future.

The Facebook post accompanied a picture of Mushfiqur and Nasum sitting together at a gym, smiling to the camera.

“Assalamualaikum to all. First of all officially I would like to apologize to all my fans and spectators regarding the incident that happened yesterday during the match. I have already apologized after the game to my fellow team mate Nasum,” the Facebook post said.

Throughout the crucial game, in which a defeat could end their final hope straightway, Mushfiqur was immensely charged up and animated and sometimes his emotions got the better of him.

Not only Nasum, he was seen to give harsh gesture to his other colleagues also during the different points of the game. He also gave a hard talk to young paceman Shafiqul Islam after he did the same mistakes in bowling.

BCB on Tuesday issued a statement saying Rahim was fined 25% of his match fees for breaching the BCB code of conduct. One demerit point was also added to Rahim's disciplinary record as he was found guilty of "showing insulting gesture towards a teammate," the release said. If Rahim reaches four or more demerit points in the tournament, the points will be converted into match suspension and he will be banned.

According to the press release, Mushfiqur was found guilty of showing insulting gesture towards Nasum Ahmed during the match, which constitutes to a Level 1 (2.6) offense.

However his attitude, especially towards the young teammate Nasum, immediately came under heavy criticism from all quarters, with the picture and video of going to punch, from which the bowler tried to save him spreading like wildfire on social media.

“I seek forgiveness from Almighty. I always remember I am a human being above all and the gesture that I have shown was not acceptable at all. Inshaa Allah in near future I promise it won’t be repeated on the ground or outside the ground….JazakAllah khair,” he said further, realizing the magnitude of his misdemeanor.

Beximco Dhaka will take on Gazi Group Chattogram in the second qualifier of the tournament today, the winner of which will face Gemcon Khulna in the final on Friday.
