Murgi Sohel detained with firearms in Nikli

RAB has arrested Naziur Rahman Sohel alias Murgi Sohel along with a pistol, two rounds of ammunition, two pipe guns, five rounds of ammunition, four local Ramdas and a chapati under Nikli upazila in Kishoreganj. He was arrested from Khalisahati area of Nikli upazila on Sunday night (May 30). Detained Naziur Rahman Sohel alias Murgi Sohel (35) is the son of Mohammad Nurul Islam of Khalisahati village in Nikli upazila.

RAB-14 Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Abu Naeem Md. Talab confirmed the information at a press conference. On May 11, Sohel carried out terrorist activities with firearms and indigenous weapons centered on the Swaijani River Jalmahal. At that time, the Murgi Sohel fired with the firearm he had. A total of 10 people including 4 children were injured. A case was filed at Nikli police station on May 12 over the incident.

Lt. Col. Abu Naeem Md. Talab said the RAB was conducting intelligence surveillance in the wake of the incident. On the basis of secret information, RAB-14 (CPC-2) conducted a special operation and arrested Sohel. A pistol with two rounds of ammunition was recovered from him. Later, they conducted an operation with him and recovered 2 pipe guns, 5 rounds of ammunition, 4 Ramdas and 1 chapati hidden under the ground behind the toilet of Sohel's house. 

RAB-14 (CPC-2) Kishoreganj Camp Company Commander Lt. Commander M Shovon Khan said Sohel had been conducting Jalmahal possession, looting, extortion and terrorist activities for a long time. The people of the area are uneasy about his activities. The RAB is investigating to find out where the recovered weapons were procured from and who the supplier was.

He was handed over to Nikli police station.
