Murder of a tiny tot

Police on Friday recovered a (stitched) body of a 5-month old child from a slum in the city's Adabor area.
Police recovered the body from room of a rented house near the Adabor Bazar water pump at around 1 pm on Friday. The victim was identified as Sadia Akter, a 5-month old baby.

Quoting eyewitness, police said that the baby’s mother Murshida Begum was in the kitchen when the incident occured.
She along with her husband, Md Shajahan, lives in the tin-shed room where the incident happened. They currently share a kitchen with other neighbouring tenants.

At around 12:30 pm, Murshida was cooking in the kitchen. When she returned to her room after cooking, she found her baby’s body lying on a pool of blood.

In agony she started screaming. Her neighbors immediately rushed to the room where police from Adabor arrived soon after.
They recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The officer in charge of Adabor police station, Shahiduzzaman believes that it was a murder case.

Responding to a question, he said that the victim’s throat was cut from the front side.
“We are yet to arrest suspects. We have some vital clues and hope to arrest the killer very soon,” he said.
Some senior officials have already visited the spot, officials said.

Meanwhile, the Rapid Action Battalion, Detective Branch and criminal investigation department (CID) of police have also started their respective duties in this regard, police sources said.
