Professor Dr. Muntasir Mamun appointment 'Bangabandhu Chair' post of Chittagong University (CU) has been cancelled. At the same time, the researcher has been asked to return all the honorarium he received while in charge of this post.
The appointment was cancelled from March 15, 2023. A letter signed by Acting Registrar Professor Mohammad Saiful Islam was sent to Professor Dr. Muntasir Mamun on October 19.
The letter mentioned that the 6th meeting of the Chittagong University 'Bangabandhu Chair' Executive Committee was held on November 11 last year. As per decision number 1 of the meeting, the Registrar's Office sought your statement in a letter on January 15 this year. In view of this, your written reply given on January 25 was taken up at the 7th meeting of the Chittagong University 'Bangabandhu Chair' Executive Committee held on March 9. Your response to decision number 1 was not accepted, which was approved in decision number 47 of the 562nd meeting of the Syndicate held on August 1 of this year. In this situation, as per the decision of the Chittagong University 'Bangabandhu Chair' Executive Committee held on March 9, your appointment as the CU 'Bangabandhu Chair' has been cancelled from March 15, 2023. You are requested to return all the money paid to you from that time onwards to Chittagong University.
Acting Registrar of Chittagong University, Professor Mohammad Saiful Islam said that the term of Professor Muntasir Mamun's 'Bangabandhu Chair' post has expired. Moreover, he did not properly perform the duties he was given as per the terms of appointment. The university authorities have taken a decision on the matter. As per the decision of the Syndicate, Muntasir Mamun has been relieved of his post. At the same time, the monthly honorarium has been sought to be returned.
