‘Mujib: The Making of a Nation’ premiers in Kolkata

On June 7, the Nandan cultural center in Kolkata lit up with the premiere of "Mujib: The Making of a Nation." This film tells the story of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh. Made in collaboration between India and Bangladesh, the movie was directed by famous Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal.

Hosted by the Sub-High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata, the screening began with a warm welcome from Deputy High Commissioner Andalib Elias. The event's chief guest was Mohibbur Rahman, Bangladesh's State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief. In his speech, he praised Mujibur Rahman's immense role in Bangladesh's Liberation War.

The premiere drew a crowd of notable figures from Kolkata. Among them were Prof Pabitra Sarkar, a respected educationalist and former vice-chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University; Srikanto Acharya, a celebrated musician; Sukharanjan Das Gupta, a renowned journalist; and Dilip Chakrabarti, another distinguished personality.

The film portrays the life and struggles of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, depicting his journey towards shaping Bangladesh's destiny. It highlights his unwavering dedication to the nation's freedom and development.

Attendees expressed admiration for the film's portrayal of Mujibur Rahman's legacy and the historical context it provides. Many lauded the collaboration between India and Bangladesh in producing such a significant cinematic piece.
