Liver specialist Prof Mamun Al Mahtab Shwapnil has delivered the ‘Mujib Lecture’ at the Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore. The lecture was held at Williams Research Building of CMC on Saturday. The talk was dedicated to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his birth centennial.
“It was my honour to deliver the talk,” Prof Shwapnil told Bangladesh Post. Faculty members and residents of Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Transfusion Medicine Departments of CMC, Vellore attended the lecture.
“I shared our experience in autologous haemopoitic stem cell transplantation for chronic liver failure in Bangladesh,” he said, adding that: “We now have the largest experience in this field in the region.”
Prof Shwapnil is the Chairman of the Department of Hepatology at BSMMU. He is one of the two key scientists who invented breakthrough medicine called Nasvac for Hepatitis B treatment.
