‘Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan’ a path to progress

Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Shahab Uddin said that the Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan is being formulated under the dynamic leadership of CVF (Climate Vulnerable Forum) President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. 

This plan will guide Bangladesh through the overall path to prosperity. He said the flagship project would be an important step towards green, nature-based solutions in the aftermath of Covid-19.

He made the remarks while addressing a virtual program titled "GCA, CVF and V-20 Briefing and Reporting Session with the Ministers" organised by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change on Thursday afternoon from his residence.

This information was given in a press release sent by Dipankar Bar, Senior Information Officer, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.

During the discussion, the Environment Minister further said that the government has taken necessary steps to address the damage caused by climate change. Tackling climate change is a struggle for survival for the people of Bangladesh.

He said that despite the numerous challenges, the government stands as a global role model in climate change adaptation through its actions. To this end, we have already planted 11.5 million trees across the country. The minister shared that Bangladesh will be successful in tackling the climate crisis in collaboration with all the major ministries including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Public Administration.

At the meeting, representatives of domestic and international organizations discussed various issues including CVF, V-20, GCA and climate diplomacy and pledged to take appropriate action in this regard from their respective positions.

Among others, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain, Special Envoy of Climate Affected Forum Abul Kalam Azad, Foreign Secretary Ambassador Masud bin Momen, Environment, Forests and Climate Change Ministry Secretary Ziaul Hasan NDC, Economic Relations Secretary Fatima Yasmin and many others spoke at the event.
