Mujib Barsho Cycling Expedition begins in Banglabandha

A ‘Mujib Year Cycling Expedition' was inaugurated at Banglabandha Land Port in Tentulia Upazila under Panchagarh to commemorate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Sunday afternoon.

100 army members, including some women soldiers, started the 1,010 km expedition from Banglabandha Zero Point in Tentulia to Teknaf. Bangladesh Army organized the flag off ceremony of Mujib Year Cycling Expedition at Banglabandha Zero Point.

Major General Md. Nazrul Islam, Commander of BA-3356 NDC, AFWC, PSC, GOC Infantry Division and Rangpur Area Commander inaugurated the programme as the chief guest by releasing pigeons at the time.

Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner Sabina Yasmin, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Yusuf Ali, Brigadier General Omar Saadi, Commander 10 Artillery Brigadier Ramu, Brigadier General Md. Mahbubur Rahman Siddique and others were also present at the ceremony. 

According to the inauguration ceremony, the cycling expedition started its journey from Banglabandha Zero Point to Cox's Bazar in Teknaf by road. Out of 100, 85 are soldiers and 15 are of other ranks and officers. 

The procession will take breaks at a total of 10 places like, Tetulia Upazila, Panchagarh District PTC, Syedpur Cantonment, Rangpur Cantonment, Rangpur Cantonment, Bogura Canton­ment, Savar Cantonment, Dhaka Cantonment, Cumilla Canton­ment, Chittagong Cantonment and Ramu in Teknaf.Speaking on the occasion, Major General Nazrul Islam said the government has decided to celebrate the period from March 17, 2020 to March 26, 2021 as Mujib Year. In its continuation, an adventurous attempt has been made to travel a long distance by bicycle from Tentulia to Teknaf. 

Efforts have been made to make this year even more significant with the participation of 100 cyclists from all formations of the Army to fully capture the centenary of the birth of the Father of the Nation. 

At the same time, this invincible cycling expedition of 71 cyclists will continue to glorify the spirit of Liberation War. 

The Mujib Year Cycling Expedition will end on December 3 in Teknaf.
