The apex court on Wednesday rejected a bail petition of Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of former Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan, in a case filed over a double murder case.
Earlier he was sentenced to life term imprisonment in the trial court.
A High Court bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice Shahed Nuruddin passed the order after hearing on the petition.
Advocate Motahar Hossain Chowdhury stood for the petitioner. Deputy attorney general ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar represented the state.
A Dhaka court sentenced Rony to life imprisonment with a fine of Tk 50,000 in the case on January 30 in 2019.
On April 13 in 2015,rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and auto-rickshaw driver Yakub were injured when Bakhtiar Alam Rony fired gunshots from his car on Dilu Road at New Eskaton in the capital. The duo succumbed to their injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 15 and April 23 respectively.
Victim Abdul Hakim's mother Monwara Begum filed a case with Ramna Police Station in connection with the murder of his son.
