A Kuwait court on Thursday sentenced Laxmipur-2 independent MP Mohammad Shahid Islam Papul to four years’ jail in a case related to human trafficking, residency visa trading and money laundering.
The court also fined the MP 1.90 million dinars, reports Al Qabas, a newspaper of Kuwait.
The Criminal Court headed by Counselor Abdullah Al-Othman awarded the verdict, report agencies.
Earlier, a Dhaka court ordered to freeze 617 bank accounts of MP Mohammad Shahid Islam alias Kazi Papul, the independent lawmaker from Laxmipur 2 constituency, and three others in a graft case.
The others accused is the case are Papul's wife Selina Islam, their daughter Wafa Islam, and Papul's sister-in-law Jesmin Prodhan.
He was arrested in Kuwait in June last year in cases related to human trafficking, residency visa trading, and money laundering. He was sent to prison there.
