Aslamul Haque, the Awami League lawmaker for Dhaka-14 constituency and a renowned entrepreneur, died of cardiac arrest on Sunday (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un).
He breathed his last around 12pm at Square Hospitals where he was undergoing treatment. He was 61.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, while delivering speech in parliament, divulged the information of Aslamul Haque’s death.
She expressed her deep shock and sorrow at his death and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.
Awami League Dhaka North unit organising secretary Azizul Hoque Rana said Aslamul Haque, vice-president of the unit, was rushed to the hospital on Sunday morning when he suddenly fell ill.
Aslamul Haque was the founder and chairman of the business conglomerate Maisha Group. He was elected MP three times in a row – 2008, 2014 and 2018 -- on the nomination of Awami League.
He served as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
Aslamul was born on May 14, 1961 in the family of Haji Md Enamul Haque Munshi and Firoza Haque in Mirpur area of Dhaka.
Condolence pours in for Aslamul Haque
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Cabinet members, business bodies, conglomerates and dignitaries mourned lawmaker and renowned entrepreneur Aslamul Haque, who died on Sunday.
The prime minister said at Parliament, "It's sad news for all of us [that Aslamul Haque has died]. He was present in the parliament session on Saturday.”
Road Transport and Bridges Minister League Obaidul, also the General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami, in a message conveyed his deepest condolence to the bereaved family of Aslamul Haque and prayed for the salvation of his departed soul.
Sikder Group of Companies also condoled the death of Aslamul, who would enjoy great affection from the Group Chairman Zainul Haque Sikder.
In a condolence message, the Group sought the divine salvation of the deceased and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal conveyed his condolence to the family and children of the deceased -- personally and on behalf of the officials and employees of his ministry.
In a separate condolence message, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi sought forgiveness for the soul of the deceased and conveyed deep sympathy to his bereaved family.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun and State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder expressed profound shock and sorrow at Aslamul’s death.
Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, in a condolence message, sought peace for the departed soul and conveyed his condolence to the bereaved family.
The sudden demise of Aslamul has saddened Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque too. In a message, he said the death of the lawmaker has caused irreparable damage to the nation.
