Biman Bangladesh Airlines has suffered enormous losses due to Covid-19 pandemic following the suspension of all flights on both domestic and international routes. Now the government is gearing up to revitalise the national flag carrier.

According to a report published in this daily, Biman has incurred a loss of Tk 2,500 crore in the last three months. The ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism has now made detailed plans to overcome the ongoing crisis and recover the loss.

The authorities have separated their measures into four categories. These categories include strategic human capital planning in order to recruit required manpower, provide training to officials and employees, proper evaluation and promotion and produce skilled manpower.

Biman is now planning to operate flights to Gwangju, Toronto, Tokyo, Chennai, Colombo, Mali, Sharjah, Shalala, Bahrain and New York. Moreover, authorities have taken fresh measures to get ISAGO for ground handling and ESSA-145 for the maintenance of aircraft certificates. Biman is also working to construct superior hanger for aircraft maintenance.

The government must speed up its efforts to help Biman Bangladesh Airlines out

of the current crisis

This is a timely initiative to rejuvenate the country’s national airline. The coronavirus has devastated the airline industry all over the world. The government must speed up its efforts to help Biman Bangladesh Airlines out of the current crisis.

At present, the national flag carrier has 18 aircraft in its fleet. These include 6 Boeing 737, 4 Boeing 777, 6 Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 2 Dash 8. If we want to make the most out of these aircrafts and generate revenue, transparency and prompt initiatives are a must.

In order to continue being a functioning airline, Biman must also strive to improve its performance and quality of service. Constant improvement is imperative to stay in the global race taking the current global scenario as well as the post-coronavirus economy into account.
