To reap the benefits of technological advancements, the government is going to bring country’s judiciary system under e-judiciary. Taka 2,800-crore e-Judiciary Project will be executed after it gets the nod of the National Economic Council Executive Committee (ECNEC).

Our visionary premier is determined to digitise the country’s judicial system to assist people in a better way. This project will bring about revolutionary changes in the country’s legislature system. It will not only mechanise the administrative system and trial process but will also help to establish e-court. All of this will ultimately boost ICT knowledge and efficiency of the judges, lawyers, and officials concerned.

The success of this virtuous initiative would very

much hinge on safeguarding technological and

legal necessities for e- judiciary

However, to make this project successful, digital courtroom should constantly be connected with uninterrupted internet connection. Adequate technological equipment is needed for each courtroom as well. The judges, lawyers, law enforcing agencies and every other official concerned should be properly trained so that they can cope with the technological advancement in e-judiciary.

We know that sometimes, the technology is vulnerable to being hacked or distorted. Therefore, proper measures should be taken to block such risks and backup plans should always be ready for any urgencies.

Since justice is vital for safeguarding the rule of law, this initiative of presenting e-judiciary in Bangladesh is commendable. Our government along with the appellate court of Bangladesh has taken a prodigious initiative with the limited resources and digital fundament for executing virtual courts during this pandemic period. The success of this virtuous initiative would very much hinge on safeguarding technological and legal necessities for e- judiciary.
