Move to create job for special-needs people

The government is creating a common platform between specially-abled people and organizations, so that they could avail job opportunities. 

The ICT department has developed the software. State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Junaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the platform named 'Emporia' virtually on Sunday.

The state minister said, "The software will create bridges between the visually-speech-impaired job seekers and the employers as well as ensure equality of opportunity for them".

He said, "The platform would reduce harassment of people with disabilities and save waste of money and time. This will allow them to take training as well as give job interviews via video conference including more. There is also mentoring facility". 

This platform has 350 audio visual contents, 60 audio contents in eight modules. There is a chance to get a certificate.

"Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) is imparting training to at least 10 persons with disabilities from seven regions of the country in each district to empower the disabled with the knowledge of technology. This time, to make this work more effective, one laptop will be handed over to these people," said the state minister.

Palak said that, "The ICT department is going to sign an agreement with the Primary Teachers Training Institute (PTI) on April 3 so that primary and higher secondary teachers can teach the disabled with general students in the same classroom". 

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak called upon all to come forward to build an inclusive Bangladesh with equal opportunities for all in the power of technology without compromising the conscience of all.

Perth Pratim Deb, Executive Director, Bangladesh Computer Council, presided over the function. Khandaker Rafi, an official of General Two, a technology support company, gave details of Emporia Software.

Md Golam Rabbani conducted the program while Senior Secretary of ICT Department NM Ziaul Alam, BCC Director Enamul Kabir, Executive Director, Suchana Foundation-CSID Khandaker Nurul Alam, Project Director Moniruzzaman and specially-able persons were connected virtually in the program.  Ishara Lata informed the whole program in sign language.
