The government’s move to allocate incentive packages for educated youths in the agriculture sector will boost crop production and curb the rising unemployment amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Recently Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in a virtual pre-budget discussion says that the government will try to give some incentives to encourage educated youth who want to pursue their career in the agriculture sector.

It is really painful to see thousands of educated youth apply for few posts of government and private jobs. On the other hand, country’s agriculture sector is lagging behind due to lack of skilled manpower. Therefore, the government should take necessary steps to bring about a revolutionary change in the country’s agriculture sector involving the educated youths.

change in the country’s agriculture sector

Over the last decade Bangladesh has successfully boosted its agricultural growth and equipped its agricultural sector with new technologies. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led government has already made the agriculture sector very attractive one and launching of incentives will certainly attract more youth, which will also reduce the unemployment rate.

It has been noticed that a large number of unemployed youths living in the country’s rural areas have also become self-reliant through cultivation of  crops, vegetables and fruits and rearing of livestock in the char lands, fish farming and duck rearing in the rivers. And they have changed their fate after triumphing the struggle and they now are leading a happy life.

The rapid urbanisation has led to young educated people moving to cities and towns to find work, leaving their respective rural areas. We believe the government's latest initiative will encourage our educated youths to start cultivating different types of crops, vegetables and fruits in order to become self-reliant.
