Moulvibazar DC stands by homeless woman

The house of Nurjahan Begum, wife (widow) of a freedom fighter, 13 days after she lost her son in Vadair Deul village of Shamshernagar union in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar has also lost house as fire burnt to ashes. 

On 3 February, Nur Islam Mollah, the only earning son of the widow Nurjahan, died of disease. And on the evening of 15th February, her house was burnt to ashes. This caused a loss of more than Tk 3 lakh. 

Widow Nurjahan Begum was under the open sky after the incident. When such humanitarian report was published in various media on Thursday, Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner Mir Nahid Ahasan came with Kamalganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashekul Haque and provided financial and food assistance to the widow.

Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner Mir Nahid Ahsan came to Nurjahan’s house on Thursday in Deul village of Vadair. He then told the widow Nurjahan that he had read the humanitarian report published in the morning newspaper. So he came to see her. At that time, he handed over Tk 10,000 in cash to Nurjahan Begum from the Prime Minister’s fund. 

He also provided two sacks of dry food items with a variety of ingredients. Shamshernagar Union Parishad Chairman Jewel Ahmed, women member Sharmin Begum Chowdhury and member Dildar Ahmed were present on the occasion.

After providing financial and food assistance, Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner Mir Nahid Ahsan said that he came here after reading the humanitarian report in the media. Since the family of this helpless freedom fighter is in the land settled by the railway, at least 5 decimal land will be taken out for them and they will construct a house there for her. Kamalganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashekul Haque has been given the responsibility.

Shamshernagar union chairman Jewel Ahmed said a house would soon be built on the site from the Fultali Trust.
