A motorcyclist was killed and another was injured as their motorcycle was hit by a passenger bus near Baraichara on Harinakundu-Jhenidah Road in Jhenidah’s Harinakundu area on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rahul Hossain Ratul, 22, son of Mantu Mia, resident of Ratidanga village of Harinakundu upazila of the district.
Ratul’s associate Pranta, son of Joydev Kumar of Bhabanipur village of same upapzila was injured in the accident. Witnesses said Ratul and Pranta were heading towards Jhenaidah from Harinakundu riding a motorcycle. When they arrived near Baraichara area, a bus coming from the same direction knocked them, leaving them injured critically.
Both the youths were rushed to Harinakaundu Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Ratul dead. Pranta has been receiving treatment there. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Harinakundu police station Abdur Rahim Mollah said police seized the bus but the driver managed to flee the scene after the accident.
A case was being filed in this connection, he added.
