Motorcycle repair training held for Payra Port-affected people

Payra Port Authority has taken initiative to make the members of the families, affected by the construction of the Payra Port in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali, self-reliant through training.

At 10 am on Wednesday, 50 members in two batches were given certificates at the Mahallapara Training Center in Lalua Union of the upazila after a month-long training on motorcycle and rickshaw repair work.

The training programme was organized by the Development Organization of the Rural Poor (DORP) under the auspices of Payra Port Authority and Ministry of Shipping.

Deputy Team Leader of DORP Agriculturalist Md Moniruzzaman Prince presided over the programme.  

Kalapara Upazila Forest Officer Md Abdus Salam was present as the Chief Guest while, Md Ashraf Uzzaman (Bappi), Assistant Director of Payra Port and DORP’s project staff were present as special guests.

The participants were happy with the training, said that motorcycles and rickshaws are now the main means of transportation for people in rural areas. So, by learning the repair work they will be able to open a garage in their own area and create their own workplace, just as the people of the village will also have the opportunity to work there. Already multiple trainees have started work before the end of the training. They are benefiting financially.

In 2019, under the supervision of the Payra Port Authority, the development agency DORP started training in 126 batches of 4,200 affected family members for the construction of Pigeon Port. So far, 3,249 members have completed the training and are now self-sufficient.

The trainees hope that by creating employment with this motorcycle and rickshaw repair training, 50 members will be able to earn more and build themselves as successful entrepreneurs. The chief guest distributed certificates among the trainees after the concluding speech of the training.

Speaking as the chief guest, Forest Officer Md Abdus Salam said that at present everyone in this trade has to start work with the knowledge gained from the training. Undoubtedly, they will benefit a lot. He commended and thanked the Pigeon Port Authority and DORP for organizing such a beautiful and timely training.
