A mother along with her three other relatives has been arrested as she had staged a drama of kidnapping of her own son to implicate others in a fabricated case.
The accused mother Runa Akhter, her sister Nasreen Akhter, sister-in-law Nusrat Jahan, brother-in-law Swapan Mia were arrested after Runa’s son Roman was rescued from a house owned by Nusrat Jahan near Apon Bus Counter in Jatrabari area of Dhaka.
Later, they were landed in jail after they were produced before a Cumilla court.
It was alleged that Md Roman, 8, a student of class three and son of Nasir Mia, a Malaysian expatriate of Tinpara village at Daudkandi upazila of Comilla, was taken along by his mother Runa Akhtar without anyone’s knowledge. Later she left her child at a relative’s house and filed a kidnapping case with the Daudkandi police station in Cumilla on February 9. There she mentioned that her child was abducted by unknown people and the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Tk 3 lakh.
According to the details of the case and police sources, mother Runa Akhter filed a case with Daudkandi police station saying that demand for a ransom of Tk 3 lakh was made after the kidnapping of Roman. The next day, on the morning of February 10, she went to Comilla Police Superitendent’s office and requested the Superintendent of Police Md. Faruk Ahmed to rescue the child with the help of police. At that time, on the instructions of the Superintendent of Police, Nazrul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daudkandi Police Station, SI Parimal of Comilla DB Police and a group of police including Md Harunur Rashid OC (Investigation) of Daudkandi Police Station launched an operation. Later Roman was rescued from a house owned by Nusrat Jahan near Apon bus counter in Jatrabari area of Dhaka after conducting raids in several places including Louhojong upazila of Munshiganj district using ultra-modern technology. Roman's mother Runa Akhter, aunt Nusrat Jahan, uncle Swapan Mia and aunt Nasrin Akhter were arrested on charges of involvement. The judge sent them to jail after they were produced before the court.
