Mosquito menace has increased at different areas of Ishwardi town in Pabna. The people of Ishwardi municipality are not free from the disturbance of mosquitoes even during the daytime even. Students remain busy containing the problem of mosquito leaving their study. They cannot get rid of the mosquitoes even after burning mosquito coils.
Locals complain that mosquito breeds indiscriminately due to dirty drains at the municipal area. The authorities do not take any initiative to clean this drain. Locals said that long ago, the pesticide was sprayed to kill mosquitoes. But now it is not done. That’s why mosquito breeding increases indiscriminately.
Talking to the authorities of Ishwardi municipality it was known that the municipality consists of nine wards. About 1,03,292 people live in the municipality covering the area of 31.10 sq km. A few years ago, a municipal authority made a drain spending a huge amount of money. But there is no cover over the drain. People throw dirt and garbage in this open drain. On the other hand, the drain is not cleaned properly.
The mosquito is produced easily from the garbage in this drain. Nuisance of mosquito increases day by day in this locality.
About ten drains are seen in Darinaricha, West Tengri Babupara, Piarakhali, College Road, Pearpur Bazar area of the municipality. All the drains are filthy. Sukjan Begum, resident of Darinaricha, said that when she open the window, mosquitoes entered her room desperately. “We cannot get relief of this problem even though we use mosquito net in the room.
Shanto Islam, a college student of Velupara area said that the mosquito spread due to the dirt and garbage that remain here and there in the municipal area. Students cannot study due to the nuisance of mosquito.
A college teacher in Piarakhali area said earlier, the municipal authority sprayed the mosquito killer chemical. But at present, municipal authority shows their indifference in this regard. That’s why, mosquito bearing diseases like Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunia broke out in this area.
According to the municipality's office sources, Tk 50,000 is has been allocated in this budget to kill mosquitoes. A few years ago five fogger machines were purchased. But they remained unused for a long time and became useless. One employee said that, the municipality has no manpower to operate those machine. That’s why the machines were left and became inactive.
Panel Mayor Sayed Hasan said, the municipal authority clean the drains and sewerage regularly. But people are not conscious. They throw their dirt and garbage in the drain. That’s why, the dirt becomes stagnant in the drain in a short time. An initiative has been taken by the municipality to kill the mosquitoes. Soon the city's drainage and sewerage will be cleaned.
