In a bid to minimize wastage of food grains and ensure food security, the government is going to construct more warehouses for stockpiling food grains across the country.

At the same time, due to insufficient warehouse facilities, farmers are unable to stock their products for which they do not get the fair price for their produces. However, more warehouse construction in the different districts will help them get fair prices.

Agriculture minister MdAbdurRazzak made the comments while speaking at an ownership transfer program at his secretariat office in the capital on Thursday.

Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives MdTajul Islam was also present as special guest.

Under the ownership transfer agreement, the Department of Agricultural Marketing (DAM) has received ownership of 69 warehouses from the Department of Local Government Engineering.

In this regard, senior secretary of the local government department Helaluddin Ahmed and secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Mesbahul Islam signed an agreement for their respective sides.

The agriculture minister said, “The government’s grain warehouse project gains popularity in the country. Keeping this success ahead, more warehouse will be built across the country to ensure food security and fair prices for farmers. At the same time, the construction of farmer training centers will be expanded to develop agriculture and living standards of farmers.”

“During the BNP government tenure, the country’s agriculture development was neglected. There was an outcry over agricultural inputs including fertilizers. But the present agri-friendly government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is giving utmost importance to agriculture. It is adopting and implementing agri-friendly policies. There is no crisis with any agricultural inputs including fertilizers and seeds. As a result, an unprecedented development of agriculture has taken place in the last 10 years which is being lauded and rejoiced all over the world”, added the minister.

LGRD minister MdTajul Islam said, “The construction of agricultural training centers at the upazila-level is the right decision at the right time to bring more modernization and development of technology in the agricultural sector.”

He further said that Bangladesh is an agricultural dependent country. The country is moving forward to earn its self-glory under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and stepping ahead gradually to fulfill the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman about agriculture.
