The Bangladesh government has allowed to ease the time limit of shopping malls amid the COVID-19 pandemic and also laid down a series of conditions for the businesses to operate ahead of Eid al Adha.
From today onwards, the shops will be allowed to operate from 10 am to 9 pm daily while the shoppers and sellers will have to maintain physical distance and follow other hygiene rules.
“The shops are allowed to remain open on a limited scale for the ongoing month of Ramadan and the upcoming Eid”, said one shop owner from Dhaka.
According to the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association, such permission has been given by the authorities.
It has been known that the Shop Owners Association had applied for an extension. The government has allowed shops and markets to open till 9 pm and certain relaxations have been announced. Usually, full lockdown is in force but it has been eased a bit this time. Short movements are admissible but crowding will not be allowed. Big shopping malls will have to make arrangements for hand washing at their entrances and disinfecting vehicles entering the malls, the directives said.
Earlier, on June 30, the opening hours of shops were extended by three hours from 4 pm to 6 pm.
