Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday said the number of activists in his party is decreasing with the number of leaders on the rise. AL does not want more leaders rather it needs devoted activists, he said while addressing the inaugural function of the triennial conference of AL’s Rajshahi city unit.

Quader said that image of many leaders are seen on the bill boards but general people do even not know who they are. “They only shine on the bill boards, not by their activities,” he added. Urging the party leaders to not form 'pocket committees', Quader said, “We have challenges ahead and the party should be moulded freshly with the devoted leaders and activists.”

He further said that there is no room for terrorists in AL. “A leader should have acceptability to the people. Remember that no one stays in power forever. We should be the real soldier of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by rejecting the greed of enjoyment,” he added  Quader, who is the road transport and bridge minister, said that people do not want the 'five time champion' in corruption BNP in power anymore.

“But, an unholy alliance is hatching conspiracy against Sheikh Hasina-led government once again,” he said urging the party leaders and activists to resist the vested quarters unitedly. President of the city unit and Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton presided over the programme which began with hoisting of the national flag, singing of the national anthem, and releasing of balloons and pigeons.
