The people of Dhaka city faced disruption on Monday due to the intermittent rainfall triggered by a depression in the Bay of Bengal and active monsoon in the country.
Many people in Dhaka city walked to reach their workplaces for lack of vehicles due to rain on Monday.
Commuters in the city remained stuck for hours in unusual traffic jam in the morning following the rains.
Students and officegoers suffered immensely due to traffic chaos at several points in Dhaka while vehicles got stranded for hours on the streets in parts of the city.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) recorded 12 mm of rainfall between 6:00 am and 12:00 pm on Monday in Dhaka city while 18 mm in the 24 hours from 6:00 am Sunday till 6:00am Monday.
The rainfall may continue for one more day and the intensity of the rainfall may fall from August 9 (Wednesday), said a Met office bulletin.
According to the Met office, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at some places in the country.
“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with heavy to very heavy falls at some places over the country”, the Met office bulletin said.
The axis of monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh. Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong over North Bay.
Day and night temperature may fall slightly over the country. Country’s maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded 33.4 degrees Celsius at Sayedpur and minimum temperature on Monday was 24.0 degrees Celsius jointly at Sitakunda, Rangamati and Kutubdia.
Country’s highest rainfall for the 24 hours till 6:00am on Monday was recorded 322 millimeters (mm) at Chattogram.
The sun sets at 06-38 PM on Monday and rises at 05-30 AM today (Tuesday) in the capital.
