Planning Minister MA Mannan on Friday said moral education is a must for the physicians in order to serve the patients with cordially and sincerely. “Moral education is important as it teaches diversity, tolerance, mutual respect and pluralistic values. Such education will refrain the physicians from any sort of wrong doings,” he said while addressing at the 20th Asian Bioethics Conference held at NEC Conference Room at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city.
He said fund is being spent in the health sector for unnecessary reasons. “Besides, we also have read news that the physicians conduct unnecessary operation. It is very unfortunate to all of us. So that the physicians will have to remain cautious to avoid such activities,” MA Mannan said. Laws cannot stop wrongdoing, including unnecessary operations, which requires morality. The work of the government is very similar to the doctor. Doctors need to be more moral in these cases, he added.
With reference to morality, MA Mannan said, 'We are ethical people, we believe in ethics. We are very ethical, whether religious or nationalistic. That's why leadership is needed. Do not misunderstand us, we have Ethical Leadership, strong Leadership, She is our Prime Minister.”
The minister said, doctors, engineers, people of ordinary occupations like me, secretaries, deputy secretaries, who all have a basic need for morality. As you can see from religious values. Religious education provides moral education to people. We need strong leadership for morality. We are ahead in morality more than ever before.
Regarding Bioethical research, the planning minister said, "We have emphasized the study." The people we do politics are not researchers. You have to conduct researches. We got into politics after studying. Now those engineers, doctors, need to do more research. We have a research council they will research.
He further said, our Prime Minister gives great importance to research. Westerners get the Nobel Prize for research. Our teachers, doctors, engineers will do the research, there will be no lack of money for it. State Minister for Information Dr. Md. Murad Hasan, Secretary of the Department of Planning, Nurul Amin, Secretary General of the Bioethics Society, Shamima Parvin Lashkar, Director General of the Department of Health Dr. Abul Kalam Azad were present there.
