Montu, Khasru Sramik League’s new president, GS

Fazlul Huq Montu has been made the new president of Jatiya Shramik League, the labourers’ wing of ruling Bangladesh Awami League, and KM Azam Khasru has been made its general secretary.

Montu was the Executive President of immediate past committee of the Jatiya Shramik League while newly selected general secretary Khasru was the Publicity Secretary of the organisation. Montu has been replaced by Mollah Abul Kalam, who was a 

Vice-President of the Sharimik League, as Mollah Abul Kalam has been made the new Executive President of the organisation.

New leaderships of the Jatiya Shramik League have been announced during the central council of the organisation at the capital’s Institute of Engineers’ Bangladesh on Saturday.

On the second day of the council, names of the new leaders were announced by AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, also the Minister for Transport and Bridges.

According to council sources, the councilors present had proposed 13 names for the posts of the president and the general secretary.

Names of the newly selected leaders were announced in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the President of AL. Earlier, Sheikh Hasina had inaugurated the process of the council.

Around 8,000 councilors from 78 organisational districts across the country took part in the councils.

This was the 13th council of the organisation established on October 12 in 1969 by the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Its 12th council was held earlier in 2012.

As part of the ongoing cleansing drives, the AL has started the replacement of leaders with comparatively clean image, honesty and dedication in the party as well as its different front organisations through councils.

The process of election and selection of new leaderships for AL and its front organisations has begun recently through councils. The first council of the Krishok League was held Swechchha Sebok League was held on November 6 when Samir Chandra Chanda has been selected as the president and Umme Kulsum Akhter Smriti as the general secretary for their clean image, said the party sources.

Meanwhile, top ranking leaders of Bangladesh Awami League and other senior leaders of the party’s different wings are seriously busy with the tasks of selecting new leaders, who are competent enough to take the new challenges in the days to come. They are working hard for holding councils of the party and its associate organisations in bids of opting for the best leaders with clean images, honesty and free from the allegations of corruptions, extortions, smuggling and any other criminal charges.

The top ranking leaders are also serious about keeping the intruders away from the councils and new leaderships. 

According to sources in the AL and its different front organisations, no intruders, extortionists, corrupt and those who do not belong to the party’s ideology and policy will not be allowed in the new committees in AL and its front organisations. The sources also said the AL and its different wings have prepared a list with the names of around 1,500leaders, who are said to be the intruders in the party and also involved with crimes and corruptions.
