The month of language movement begins today (Monday). The people of the country will pay tributes to the valiant sons of the soil who made supreme sacrifice during the language movement in February in 1952.
The Language Day -- February 21 -- is also observed as the International Mother Language Day globally since 2000 after UNESCO recognised the day.
The Bengali nation achieved the dignity of their mother tongue through the sacrifices made by Salam, Shafiq, Barkat, Rafique and others during a massive movement in February, 1952.
The government will observe the day through different programmes through the month maintaining social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.
