‘Smriti Swatta Bhobisshot’

Month-long commemorative event underway at BSA

A month-long commemorative event titled ‘Smriti Swatta Bhobisshot’ to remember 45 prominent poets, litterateurs and artistes of the country was inaugurated on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital on Monday.

BSA, in association with Ministry of Cultural Affairs, has organised the month-long programme paying tribute to the veterans.

State minister for cultural affairs KM Khalid was present as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony at National Music and Dance Centre Auditorium of BSA.

Presided over by BSA director general Liaquat Ali Lucky, the event was attended by music exponent Professor Dr ABM Nurul Anwar, Bangladesh Theatre Archive chairman, theatre critic and translator Professor Abdus Selim, artist Jamal Ahmed from Dhaka University’s fine arts faculty, eminent singer Kiron Chandra Roy, photographer Pavel Rahman, Bangladesh Nritya Shilpi Sangstha general secretary Mahfuzur Rahman and film activist and photographer Munira Morshed Munni as discussants.

Academy secretary Badrul Anam Bhuiyan delivered the welcome speech at the event.

The opening day event included rendition of the national anthem, lighting candles, observing one-minute silence, publishing the list of 45 veterans and displaying photographs. Besides, discussion on the work of celebrated music maestro of the subcontinent Sachin Dev Burman, video presentation and musical event were also held.

As a part of the month-long commemorative event, a series of discussions and cultural programmes will be arranged every day at the same venue till July 2.
