With the month of Baishakh passing through, there is a significant risk of dengue outbreak happening in the country. Previous year’s outbreak caused a huge amount of losses which can be considered on par with the current death toll due to coronavirus outbreak.

However, the current monsoon season may increase the rate of infection due to aedes mosquitoes which spread the dengue virus. With the current situation of coronavirus in the country and death tolles reaching over 150, it is imperative that dengue outbreak doesn’t take place this time like the previous year.

Experts opine that the larvae of aedes mosquito eggs hatch as soon as it rains. This means that already there might be dengue larvae which are awaiting to sprout wings and spread the virus. With the outbreak of coronavirus the situation is going to weigh heavy if there is a dengue outbreak. It is imperative for immediate steps to be taken so that no such situation arises in the country and the number of deaths can be kept low.

Although, in the capital, the two city corporations had been actively carrying out anti-dengue drives around the city to counter the dengue near the year end in 2019, with the coming of 2020 that scene has slowly faded away. This can partially be taken as a situation caused by coronavirus, the outbreak taking precedence over the dengue.

According to CDC, a female mosquito can lay at least 100 eggs. Eggs have the ability to survive in any environment and can survive for more than eight months, even in the harsh winter. This shows the severity of the situation if an outbreak was to take place in the country in this moment of crisis.

Based on prediction of the situation that the country might face in the foreseeable future, it is important to take necessary precautions in and around the areas where dengue outbreak was more prominently recorded in the past years. This will result in a preemptive strike against the dengue menace and cut short the misery that might be caused by it.
