Police arrested two top leaders of banned terrorist outfit JMB from Khulna city who were masterminds of the recent bomb attacks in Khulna.

A team of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) led by KMP Commissioner Khandaker Luftul Kabir raided an area in Khulna city in the early hours on Saturday. The suspected terrorists were hiding at a house named, ‘HasnaHena’ on Gollamari road under Sonadanga Model Police Station.

They arrested militants were primarily identified as Nor Mohammad Anik, 24 and Md Mozadedul Islam Rafi, 23. They were directly involved in bomb attacks on Krishak League office at Khan Jahan Ali of Khulna Town. They were also involved in another bomb attack on a police car garage at Arong ghata Police Station of KMP. According to the police sources, Anik is the son of one Abdur Rahman, hailing from Ghior Upazila of Manikgonj district.

He is a residential student of Bangabandhu Hall of Khulna University.  Rafi is son of one Md Rezaul Karim, hailing from Shibgonj of Bogra. He is also a residential student of Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah hall of the same university. They primarily admitted that they were directly involved in the two bombing attacks in Khulna.

They disclosed that they were radicalized through social media. At one stage, they became active members of Neo JMB. They also planned to carry out attacks after learning bomb -making tactics from online video sources. They made Improvise Explosive Devices (IED) using remote control devices. On the day of the attacks, both of them went to the spots. One of them set the IEDs while another one blasted using remote control.

However, immediately after the attacks, Islamic State (IS) had claimed responsibility for the  bomb blasts. Hours after the explosion, Amaq Agency tweeted: "Today, the League Awami Party headquarters in Bangladesh suffered material damage,

after the Islamic State fighters detonated an explosive device inside it, in the Shiromoni area, in Khulna District, located in Southwest of the country." But Bangladeshi law enforcing agencies repeatedly denied any existence of IS.
