Mohiuddin Faruque passes away

Mohiuddin Faruque , an art director, film director and teacher, has returned to the land of no return. He passed away Friday noon at the age of 78 years.

He had been suffering from fever and cough for the last few days. So he kept himself separate from other family members. He used to follow the doctor's advice which he got over the phone. But he was found unconscious in his room on Friday. After being taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, the doctors declared him dead.

At the time of his death, he served as chairman of the Department of Film and Media at Stamford University. He was also a teacher of Bangladesh Film and Television Institute.

Mohiuddin Faruque was born on March 3, 1941 in the village of Aralia under Gajaria police station in Munshiganj district. He passed the Intermediate in 1960 and was then admitted to Dhaka Art College. He was a student of artist Zainul Abedin. He designed the sculpture in front of the office of the Board of Directors in the BFDC to commemorate the martyrs of the War of Liberation.

He won Bangladesh National Film Award for best art direction seven times for the films Basundhora (1977), Dumurer Phool (1978), Pita Mata Santan (1991), Padma Nadir Majhi (1993), Dukhai (1997), Meghla Akash (2001) and Obujh Bou (2010).
