Bangladeshi Mountaineers M A Mohit and Ikramul Hasan are scheduled to reach the peak of the 23,380 feet high Himlung mountain near Nepal-Tibet border for the first time by next month.
Bangla Mountaineering and Trekking Club (BMTC) made the announcement of the new expedition of the mountaineers at a press conference and flag-off ceremony held at the National Press Club in the city on Friday.
Chairperson of non-government organisation BRAC Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman and Charge d'Affaires of Nepal Embassy in Dhaka Dhan Bahadur Oli attended the function.
Founder of the BMTC and expeditor to Antarctica Enam UI Haque presided over the ceremony.
The BMTC planned the Himlung expedition with the sponsorship of Ispahani Tea Limited and Arla Foods Bangladesh Limited.
At the onset of the ceremony, the guests handed over Bangladesh's national flag to the two mountaineers, who will join a 10-member multinational mountaineering team in Nepal.
At the press conference, Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman said such expedition is an excellent way to create sensitivity about the nature conservation among people.
He also underscored the need for combating climate change impact on mankind and growing sensitiveness to the nature for its better conservation.
The expedition symbolises nice coexistence of mankind and the nature, said Hossain Zillur, who had been an adviser to a caretaker government.
Hossain Zillur, also a former adviser to a caretaker government, expected that the climbers will return safe and sound after successfully carrying Bangladesh's flag over Himlung Mountain.
Mr Dhan Bahadur Oli said the expedition will help create awareness about mankind's responsibility to nature.
"Everybody needs to know about sustainability of our own nature," said Mr Oli.
Mt. Himlung lies to the northeast of Annapurna Range with an aspiring height of 7,126m.This Mountain, which lies in a secluded area of Nepal borders with Tibet. Voyage to Himlung follows round Annapurna route to Koto and from Koto to Na-phu Gaun.
Mohit climbed Mt Everest twice as the only Bangladeshi, who also scaled a good number of mountains.
They will leave Dhaka for Nepal on September 30 and the expedition is expected to be completed within 30 days.
