The border guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel at 58 BGB battalion at bordering Moheshpur had arrested two gold smugglers and seized 20 gold bars worth Taka 1.85 crore on Thursday night.
The arrested smugglers were Nabisuddin Mandal, 58, son of Choyen Uddin and Asanur Rahman, 48, son of Sadir Ali Mandal of Jinnanagar village in same bordering police station, said BGB 58 battalion director Lieutenant Colonel Masud.
He said acting on a tip off, a contingent of BGB men were staying in the field near the zero-line of Kazirber area under Palianpur border outpost in the midnight of Thursday. As the duo were trying to cross the zero-line area, BGB men had challenged them and managed to grill with the gold bars.
BGB had filed a case with Moheshpur police station in this connection and handed over the arrested to police.
