Mohammedan suffer defeat to Rahmatganj

Mohammedan Sporting Club, who have already celebrated the victory of the Bashundhara Bangladesh Premier League championship with three matches in hand, tasted defeat to Rahmatganj MFS at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla on Wednesday.    

Mohammedan suffered the the defeat in a seven-goal thriller by 4-3 when it was second defeat for Mohammedan in the league of this season, when they suffered a solitary goal defeat to Youngmen’s Fakierepool Club in the first leg. Mohammedan won 12 matches out of thier 16 matches they played and drew two.  

The match between Mohammedan and Rahmatganj, was scheduled to take place on Tuesday at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla was abandoned due to inclement weather after 18 minutes and the rest of 72 minutes game was held yesterday at the same ground. 

However, on Tuesday, when the match was suspended with Mohammedan leading the proceeding by 2-1 before being called off by referee, as the ground turned into unplayable due to rough weather.  

The remaining 72 minutes game was held on Wednesday at 1 pm with Mohammedan was leading the by 2-1 but in rest of the time Rahmatganj came from behind to down the champions with scoring three more goals.

The traditional Black and Whites, who confirmed the championship in their previous match, could add only one goal on the day to make their tally three.  

Samuel Boetang of Rahmatganj, who scored five goals in a match, the Ghanaian forward slammed another hattrick on the day to snatch the thrilling 4-3 victory over Mohammedan.

Mohammedan captain Soleymane Deabate of Male scored a couple of goal when their Nigerian forward Emanuel added one goal. 

After winning the match, Rahmatganj amassed 26 points from 16 poutings with eight wins and two draws.  

In the days other matches, Abahani Limited trounced the Chittagong Abahani by 5-0 when Fortis FC and Bangladesh Police FC  shared points.
