Mohammedan SC target couple of trophies

Mohammedan Sporting Club, who last time tasted the league championship 18 years back in 2002, in a bid to fight for the championship in the coming season, submitted their players’ list to Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) on Friday. 

One of the premier teams of the country’s football have already finished their homework of forming the squad and with a great enthusiasm, accompanied by hundreds of fans wearing the jersey of the traditional Black and White came to BFF premises with riding on horse carts to submit the papers.

Engineer Golam Mohaamed Alamgir, chairman of the Mohammedan Football Committee, coach Shafiqur Rahman Manik and the team’s captain Soleymane Deabate handed over a 32-member squad of the team to BFF president and the chairman of the League committee Kazi Mohammed Salahuddin.

Engineer Alamgir said, “This time we have formed a good side, hopefully we will at least win two trophies this season.”

Coach Manik said, “This time we organized the team eyeing to be champions. In last few seasons Mohammedan in fact had a mediocre side and had to satisfy with fifth or sixth position but now we have taken the initiatives to make Mohammedan champions.”

Mohammedan, who are eyeing to fight for the championship in all the domestic competitions, assembled a strong side comprising quality booters from home and abroad, and included a foreign trainers also.

The officials of the Mohammedan, looked very much exciting when talking to the reporters at the BFF premises after submitting their papers for the players’ registrations.

Abu Hassan Chowdhury Prince, secretary of the football committee of Mohammedan was very enthusiastic after completing all formalities of the players’ registration after signing up the foreign booters. Prince informed they have an attacking midfielder from Venezuela, a center defender of Uzbekistan, an Iranian defensive midfielder along with Bosnian born German trainer. Both the football secretary Prince, coach Manik, his deputy Alfaz Ahmed, manager Nakib, in fact all the officials and the devoted fans also looked very excited, as after a long time one of the giants in the domestic football are going to appear with their real strength.

The reigning champions of the Bangladesh Premier League football and the runners up of the Independence Cup Bashundhara Kings also complete their players’ registration on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the curtain raiser of the most coveted domestic football season 2022-2023, the Independent Cup football tournament to kicked off from Saturday with the qualifying phase in two venues at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium, Gopalganj and Bir Sreshtha Lt. Matiur Rahman Stadium, Munshiganj.

The final phase of the tournament will start from November 13, when a total of 16 teams including 11 teams of the Bangladesh Premier League and five teams will join from the qualifying phase.
