Mohammad Maruf made MD of Dhaka Bank

Dhaka Bank PLC has appointed Sheikh Mohammad Maruf as its new Managing Director, effective from 1st October 2024. 

Having over 28 years of extensive experience in Bangladesh's banking sector, Maruf previously served as Additional Managing Director and Chief Business Officer at The City Bank.

Maruf's career began in 1995 as a Management Trainee at American Express Bank, where he eventually rose to the position of Director and Head of Financial Market Services and Treasury. 

His journey continued with his role as Head of Treasury at Eastern Bank PLC, before joining The City Bank in 2007 as Executive Vice President and Head of Treasury. 

In 2012, he was promoted to Deputy Managing Director and Head of Wholesale Banking at The City Bank, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the bank into a trusted financial institution.

With nearly three decades of experience across corporate banking, treasury, retail, cards, market risk, wholesale banking, micro-financing, and trade financing, Maruf has been instrumental in developing innovative financial products and services. 

His contributions include work in derivative products, the foreign exchange market, money markets, mergers and acquisitions, structured finance transactions, and offshore banking in Bangladesh.

An alumnus of American Express Bank, Maruf holds a master's degree in finance from the University of Dhaka.
