Mohakhali inter-district bus terminal located in the central part of the city worsens the traffic jam by blocking both sides of the road. Dhaka North City Corporation has recently laid out a U-turn facility near the Nabisco area on Tejgaon Road so that the buses could ply across the road without blocking the traffic movement. But this solution did not turn out to be useful and is rather compounding it. The vehicles are struggling to move as road has narrowed for making way for the U-turn ramp.
The implementation of government’s primary plan of relocating the bus terminal outside the capital requires urgency to allay the plight of the city-dwellers. Four new bus terminals, including the one at Mohakhali will be built at Savar's Birulia and Hemayetpur, Keraniganj's Teghria and at Kanchpur to prevent inter-district buses from entering Dhaka city which are responsible for aggravating the traffic congestion.
