Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India will further be strengthened if Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attends the Mujib Year’s programme in Bangladesh, reports BSS.
‘The relations between Bangladesh and India would reach a new height if Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes to Bangladesh on a visit,’ he told a press briefing after exchanging views with the Indian delegation led by its foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla at his secretariat office in Dhaka.
Quader, also a Road Transport and Bridges Minister, told the newsmen that ‘We expect that this visit would take the Bangladesh-India relations a step forward and our existing relations would be more strengthened.’ He said if the two prime ministers meet then the existing problems between Dhaka and New Delhi will be discussed at the high-level meeting, adding that many of our problems have already been solved and some other issues are set to be discussed.
The minister, however, said that despite there is a concern over the latest situation of India , Bangladesh should welcome him [Narendra Modi] considering the contribution of India to the War of Independence in 1971. On opposing the Modi’s visit to Bangladesh, the senior ruling party leader said ‘these people who are opposing the visit are not quite right, they should welcome him.
Bangladesh will give high importance to the security of the Narendra Modi’s visit, he said. Narendra Modi will join the opening session of the Bangabandhu’s birth centenary programme on March 17 and then he will attend a bilateral meeting on the following day.
