Model mosques being inaugurated in Chandpur

Inauguration of 50 model mosques in the country including Chandpur is being held today (June 10). On the occasion of Mujib Year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will announce the inauguration of Kachua Upazila Model Mosque of Chandpur District along with 49 others across the country today at 10.30 am through video conference.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be directly involved in video conference with Sylhet, Rangpur and Khulna. Containers of other mosques including Chandpur will be presented. In the video conference, Chandpur MP Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, Deputy Commissioner Anjana Khan Mojilish, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Milon Mahmud, IFAR Deputy Director, Upazila Chairman, Executive Officer and other officials will be present at the mosque premises.

Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation, Chandpur Md. Khalilur Rahman gave this information on June 8 noon. In addition, the inaugural program will be broadcasted live on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar. 

According to Islamic Foundation sources, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her 2014 election manifesto promised to build one improved mosque in each district and upazila in the hope of building a happy, prosperous and developed Bangladesh.

During a visit to the Ministry of Religious Affairs on February 8, 2015, the Prime Minister gave instructions to implement the promise. In this context, the project titled ‘Establishment of 560 Model Mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in each district and upazila (first revised)’ was approved at the ECNEC meeting on 26 June 2016.
