In order to keep the price of essential commodities stable and the supply normal, operations are underway in important wholesale and retail markets of Chattogram city and all the upazilas.
Six Executive Magistrates simultaneously conducted mobile courts in Chattogram from wholesale to retail level to control the price of essential commodities including onion.
They have conducted drives in different places of Chattogram city from Tuesday morning. Traders have been fined for not showing price lists and sales invoices.
In order to monitor and control onion prices and stocks, Executive Magistrate Towhidul Islam asked the traders not to sell more than 2 kgs of onions to a single buyer at Karnaphuli Market in Agrabad Chaumuhani. The market committee also has urged all the traders not to sell onion more than Tk 120 according to the current stock of onions at the retail level.
On the other hand, Executive Magistrate Himadri Khisa conducted the mobile court in Pahartali
Bazar and fined Tk 10 thousand in
8 cases.According to the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, Sakib and Feroze Store were fined Tk 10,000 and Abdul Hakim, Khawaja Store were fined Tk 20,000 for not keeping sales receipts and selling onions at high prices in Karnaphuli Bazar.
Executive Magistrate Md. Umar Faruq led the drive along with his team.
Executive Magistrate Khairul Islam conducted the operation of mobile court in Riazuddin Bazar of Chattogram city. At that time he fined Tk 8 thousand from two shops.
During the drive at Deuri Bazar, Executive Magistrate Ferdous Ara Kazi fined Tk 6 thousand in 3 cases.
Mobile court fined Tk 64 thousand to control prices of daily essentials in 16 cases in the metropolis.
Deputy Commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman said that the drive will be continued in the retail markets as well as the wholesale markets till the price of essential commodities is not brought under control.
