A man was killed and four others were injured in a mob beating in Sadar upazila of Jashore early Thursday.
The deceased, Masud Rana, 38, was son of Sohrab Molla of Kefayatnagar village under the Sadar upazila.
The injured Israfil Hossain, 20, Sajeeb, 20, Sumon Hossain, 22, and Moinuddin, 20, are residents of several villages in the upazila.
Locals said someone using loudspeakers announced that a gang of robbers were taking drugs at the house of one Zulfiqar Gazi's father-in-law at Gaidgachi village and sought help from villagers.
Responding to the call, villagers rushed to the house and beat up the five people, leaving Masud dead on the spot. Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, said the injured are now undergoing treatment in Sadar and other hospitals.
The body was sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said, adding that a process was underway to file a case in this connection.
The OC the reason behind the incident will be known upon investigation.
